Covid-19 and the associated lockdown decisions have created severe restrictions on the supply- and demand-sides of the South African economy which are likely to deepen the existing recession. This study uses data from the NIDS-CRAM Wave 1 survey to explore the relationship between the economic recession and mortality in South Africa.
